  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan. In a medium bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and salt. In another medium bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of the flour and 1/4 cup of buttermilk until well blended. Add this mixture to the butter mixture and mix until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before frosting with lime buttercream.
