Easy Apple Bread Recipe

If you love apples and fresh baked goods, try this delicious Apple Bread recipe. It’s made with simple ingredients, including fresh apples, applesauce, pure vanilla extract, light brown sugar, and a few other ingredients, all of which pair perfectly together. The streusel topping on this apple bread makes it that much more delicious. You can slather it with butter, apple butter or eat it plain.

How to Make Apple Bread with Streusel Topping

Start by grating your apple using a box grater.  Line the mesh sleeve with paper towels or cheesecloth and set it over a bowl before placing the shredded apples into the sleeve and sprinkle them with a bit of salt.  Let it sit for 15 minutes before squeezing the apples in the paper towels until you’ve removed all the liquid.  Grab a large bowl and add flour, apple pie spice, and baking powder to the bowl.  Grab a separate bowl and whisk your brown sugar, applesauce, milk, egg, and vanilla. Add your wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, fold them together gently. Add the shredded apple, fold it in gently, and add the batter to the pan.  Spread your streusel on top. Bake for 50-55 minutes.

Ingredient Notes

Apples: I love Granny Smith apples in this recipe because they’re tart and hold up well during baking, but feel free to substitute whatever apple you have on hand. All-Purpose Flour: My go-to baking flour. Feel free to substitute whole wheat if that’s what you have on hand. Apple Pie Spice: Gives us great warmth and spice! If you don’t have any, you can substitute 1½ teaspoons of ground cinnamon and ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Baking powder: Helps our apple bread rise. Sugar: I’m using brown sugar because it sweetens the bread, but also gives it more of an earthy-woody flavor that compliments the apple really well. Applesauce: Helps keep the bread moist and enhance the overall apple flavor. I’m using unsweetened applesauce. Milk: I used whole milk, but feel free to use what you have on hand. Egg: Binds the loaf together. Vanilla: Enhances the sweetness and flavor of the apple. Butter: Helps bind the streusel and makes it turn golden brown in the oven.
